Deep Thoughts and a Reflectio… Oooh! Look! A Bobby Pin!

First, my apologies if you came here expecting another anti banana rant. This in my personal blog and I feel like getting personal today. So with that disclaimer, on with the show.

I am a Gemini. If you are not into that hocus pocus astro base star sign silliness, it gets even worse. I am a strong ENFP. Yeah that’s a personality type on that all knowing Myers Briggs test that basically tells you that even old haggard psychologists with their stinky pipes and dressed in their corduroy sports coats with the patches on the elbows thinks you are a Gemini and a lost cause. Well, we (as in Gemini’s or ENFP’s pick your pseudo science) never think we are a lost cause, but since we make up only 3% of the population the rest of the world looks at us as though we are the proverbial cow chip in the cinnamon roll basket. Well I think you are all sheep so BAAAAA.

Er, I digress.

ENFP stands for Extraversion, Intuition, Feeling, Perception. According to Wikipedia, “ENFPs are initiators of change, keenly perceptive of possibilities. They energize and stimulate others through their contagious enthusiasm. They prefer the start-up phase of a project or relationship, and are tireless in the pursuit of new-found interests. ENFPs are able to anticipate the needs of others and to offer them needed help and appreciation. They bring zest, joy, liveliness, and fun to all aspects of their lives. They are at their best in fluid situations that allow them to express their creativity and use their charisma. They tend to idealize people, and can be disappointed when reality fails to fulfill their expectations. They are easily frustrated if a project requires a great deal of follow-up or attention to detail.” Famous ENFP’s include Mark Twain, Robin Williams, Fidel Castro, and everybody’s favorite wacky stand up type of guy Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Looking at it from the Miss Cleo side of the album, a Gemini is responsive to change and constantly looking for new challenges. We love to try new things and get bored quickly with the same ol’ same ol’. We normally possess high intelligence with a mind that works in the logical and rational realm thus allowing us to learn new concepts and ideas quickly. While we are born multi-taskers, able to juggle many projects at the same time with ease, we rarely stick with tasks or ideas long enough to see them through. Gemini’s are constantly looking for something that is more exciting and we often change our mind. Famous Gemini’s include John F. Kennedy, Marilyn Monroe, Jeffery Dahmer, and Fidel’s little bro Raul.

I’m not a scientist so this is only a uneducated hypothesis but even though ENFP’s only make up 3% of the population they seem overly represented in the lists of famous and infamous Gemini’s. Ranging from the pure – Anne Frank was both an ENFP and a Gemini, to the purely evil – Libyan leader Muammar al-Qaddafi was also an ENFP and a Gemini.

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist or the aforementioned grumpy psychologists and wacky star readers to interpret that there seems to be a correlation between ENFP and Gemini. Flighty, always looking for excitement, dual natured (which can also be expressed as diplomatic which should sound familiar since I posted about that earlier), outwardly super social while internally tormented.

As you can see, I’m screwed to the second power. Throw in my Cherokee and Irish bloodlines and you can correctly assume that I spend much of my time in a drunken stupor trying to find meaning in my life. What should make a normal person of my age happy – the white picket fence, a secure job, a happy family – does absolutely nothing for me. Oh sure I think about it at times, at least until the next shiny object rolls into my line of vision.

A perfect example of what I deal with on a daily basis include the fact that what I have been sitting here writing is not what I originally wanted to write about. Also the fact that I’m sitting here writing this when I have a fairly pressing deadline staring me in the face is probably not the wisest of ideas. Professionally not only do I have several projects started that are in various states of completion, I also have several legal pads full of great ideas, some that are probably sure fire winners, that I will never get around to implementing because of my flighty nature. I hate to commit to anything but the here and now as I traverse this life flying by the seat of my pants. Things that should make me happy depress me. My happiest moments can also be my saddest. I am never afraid to fail. I am deathly afraid not to try. I have lived with this affliction my entire life and have made peace with it. It still frustrates me but I am also fully aware that it is what makes me tick. I’m cool with that.

This affliction is also perfectly illustrated by the undeniable fact that I love the city of Indianapolis yet I also have a strong urge to get away and start anew. Anytime I get comfortable I start looking for ways to leave that state of being and reintroduce what normal people consider unhealthy levels of stress. Yet what you call stress to me is adventure… and I feed on adventure. That is what this blog post was supposed to be about. Oh well, guess that will be for tomorrow unless I decide to post about bananas or unicorns or bobby pins.
